Someone brought another computer that had the same thing and I repaired the MBR with Partition Commander from Avanquest which I believe used to be Partition Magic, and the operation system was toast. It was completely locked up except the command prompt. The main reason I'm here is because of the last computer I worked on. I'm not formally trained and learn as I go. Family and friends have been bringing their computers to me to repair for years. as I have been building my own computers since the mid 1990s. I believe I have at least moderate experience with computers, networking, storage, security, etc. I have Kaspersky TDSS Killer along with the Kaspersky rescue disk. I'm not going to execute until I hear from someone to let me know it's okay. Eset didn't like the Bit Torrent site, but I was able to download Bit Torrent.exe and scanned it. When you say "Peer to Peer," do you mean Bit Torrent? That sounds scary. I use Hirens on a daily basis for its linux environment for punching through SAM databases. You can trust Hirens, but also need to have a moderate experience with computers, networking, storage, security etc. Hiren's official page is here : hxxp://However a compilation of all the tools is not available from that site. Hiren's would be something your best to receive through peer to peer exchange. This tool is best ran in safemode for hard to get rid of rootkits, and normal mode for rootkits that dont run unless certain services fire up. I can provide a link for that, but not Hirens : TDSS killer is a completely free tool used to detect root-kits, developed by Kaspersky. It also has a few programs attached to it that cause false positive, due to the methods and strength they can have at altering your system. I had "Flash Pro" malware, which was choking my internet browsing both in Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit version.Hirens is one of the best tools on the internet for PC troubleshooting, repairing, and fixing. Sudo clamscan -r -move=/tmp/virus /media/"volume_name"/2ABC123903A129B4A I tried the following clamscan command and it worked: This will be after Name, Type, Contents) and add the "Name" of the partition on top, such as: Else right click on the Windows partition, left click on "Properties", then you will find in the Basic Menu "Location: /media/"volume_name" (without quotes. Then, on the left pane, if you hover the cursor the path details are shown. The path can be found by double right clicking on the Windows partition on the left menu. WARNING: /mnt/windows-partition: Can't access file mnt/windows-partition: No such file or directory Then again there was an error for /mnt/windows-partition: There was no such directory in my system. Sudo clamscan -r -move=/tmp/virus /mnt/windows-partition It can be made to scan other partitions, including windows partitions, provided you define the path properly. Also there you can find some info regarding UEFI.Ĭlamscan works for Ubuntu home as default. These guides are detailed and pretty explanatory so I decided not to duplicate them here. On the same page you will find several guides: how to burn disk, how to use the product. Select the objects you wish to scan (boot sector, start-up objects, partitions) and press "Start Objects Scan" button. Run "Kaspersky Rescue Disk", update the virus definitions, because they are old (you will need to setup Internet connection). There are several shortcuts on the desktop. You can burn it to DVD or make a bootable USB.īoot from it (it can be run in grahical and text modes). It is based on Gentoo distribution with KDE. They provide Rescue Disk in ISO format and it is absolutely free. One of the best antiviruses - Kaspersky Anti-Virus - provides a method to cure severely infected installations of Windows. Though my way of solving such problems isn't related to Ubuntu, it still may be valuable.
